Luxid’s Sam Thorburn likes to make things ‘pop’.

“Designers are often asked to make things ‘pop’. It’s a broad brief, but essentially it’s making things stand out. For me this is all about having an intuitive eye for design and understanding what the client needs,” he explains.

Sam is a Motion Graphic Designer 3D Generalist at Luxid working within the Creative Solutions team: “I love being able to create amazing visual content for some great clients, and being part of a team that offers support, advice and a positive working environment.”

He is currently working on live 3D hologram event visuals for Atea and is also developing an e-book design for Dell Technologies, among many other exciting design projects!

Like many of the other designers at Luxid, Sam loves all things creative. He says he’s really inspired by beautiful design, citing artists Peter Tarka, Fabian Aerts and studios such as Tendrill, Manvsmachine and Found.

Sam knew early on life that he wanted to pursue a creative career and as a child dreamed of being a film maker or working in an area of movie production. He pursued his creative goals by studying Media Production at Coventry University.

As well art and design, Sam is also passionate about travelling, DJing and music, with Pink Floyd his favourite band. When they started in the 1960s, the group were hailed as ‘trailblazers’ in new and experimental music, and this is the Luxid value that Sam most relates to.

“It has to be Trailblazing,” says Sam “I believe we are only as good as our last piece of work and by constantly pushing boundaries and our abilities to achieve creative excellence we will stand out from the rest.”

Sam says he works with some amazing designers, project managers and account leads, and sees trailblazing in each and every project. “All team members push themselves and always surprise me at the amazing results they achieve,” says Sam.

Pushing boundaries in creativity and in the quality of his work on each assignment is how Sam lives Trailblazing at Luxid. He’s super focused on learning new skills to enhance his creative output and deliver the best results possible.

“I want to be a truly great designer someday and have an outstanding portfolio of amazing creative work. So each day I try to learn and do more and simply become the best version of myself I can.”

Sam believes that Luxid is an ideal place to grow and learn in a safe supportive environment. “Luxid is different because it approaches creative challenges differently and plays on the strengths of the team to achieve excellent outcomes,” says Sam. “Luxid always offers support and a friendly forum to voice ideas, opinions and anything else.”

And while Sam is in the early stages of his design career, he started his focus on growth and learning at a tender age” “I was the youngest intern at Sony – I had just turned 16 and was offered an internship after convincing my college to let me (a first year) interview for the position that was only offered to second years. This experience gave me invaluable experience and an edge on future job opportunities.”

If you’ve been inspired by Sam’s story of creativity, trailblazing and relentless focus on development, then Luxid could be just the place for you to apply your design skills and shine in a dynamic workplace. You can find everything you need to know about careers at Luxid here.
