The data scientist creatively solving client problems

Henrik Wahlström loves his music. But unlike some of his colleagues, he’s not a metalhead. The Data Scientist at Luxid favors underground electronic music: techno, acid house, electro and ambient. “Electronica is something that I’m really passionate about and with that comes all the gear. I have synthesizers, drum machines, the lot,” says Henrik.  

He’s also big on travel and struggles to choose his Favorite destination: “It’s hard to settle for just one place. I love the Greek Islands – Crete is definitely a favourite – Berlin’s a wonderful city, and Thailand is great; in fact, I’m going there this year.” 

Henrik is from Helsinki, but he studied in Turku at Åbo Akademy University. He says his proudest achievements are his master’s degrees: an MSc in Chemical Engineering and an MSc in Economics and Business Administration. And while he dreamed of being a car mechanic as a kid, with all his impressive training, a career in data science awaited him.  

“I love being a data scientist as I am able to solve all kinds of challenging problems for clients,” says Henrik. And while data science is viewed by some as very much a numbers game, for Henrik it’s also about creativity. “I like to think I have the MacGyver type of touch, creatively resolving problems with finite resources.” 

Henrik gets to work on a variety of different tasks and projects that are enabled by data. He is currently setting up a data warehouse that consolidates Luxid clients’ marketing data. This is a big and important task and includes masterminding data integrations for multiple marketing platforms.  

Data science is now a pivotal function within B2B marketing, and Henrik loves the role he can play in establishing better ways of working and unlocking growth potential. “I’m really motivated to uncover insights that make processes simpler and help others understand complex problems,” explains Henrik.  

Henrik says he admires the talent and creative ability of his co-workers at Luxid. “There’s such a wealth of knowledge and talent here,” says Henrik. “And people come from all different backgrounds, but we are all united in the same focus to deliver great results for clients.”  

  

He says that Luxid is a truly inspiring place to work and there’s a long list of reasons why the agency is so special: “Colleagues with similar mindset, interesting clients, challenging projects, continuous learning, technological advancements…it goes on.” 

The Luxid value that Henrik most relates to is Resourceful. “For me, Resourceful is about being creative; finding the solutions that are simple yet effective.” He says that as a data scientist, living the Resourceful value is also about being effective and efficient, not taking short cuts, and delivering robust scalable solutions that work  

"I see resourcefulness in how teams come together to tackle challenges,” says Henrik. “When someone encounters a roadblock, colleagues are quick to share creative ideas, tools, or approaches to help find the best solution."
