“I’m more than halfway through my internship and I can honestly say I’ve been loving it,” says Sanna Virmakoski. “The work environment is very supportive, people have been so welcoming and there is a real openness and respect for everyone.”
Sanna has clearly lucked out with her internship at Luxid. She’s been working in marketing at the agency since May and is getting real hands-on experience with some of the most important activities in the department.
“I'm currently working on various tasks,” says Sanna. “I’m updating content for the website, planning webinars and working on other events. I love that I’m trusted with projects and tasks and given the opportunity to work on them independently. But of course, I get support whenever it’s needed.”
Sanna says that before starting at Luxid she was really interested in working in an international environment and getting experience of “large scale” clients. She is currently studying business administration at Haaga-Helia, Finland and found out about the internship at Luxid through a LinkedIn group for marketing students at the university.
“I needed to do an internship for my degree, but what I was more interested in was gaining experience of working in a marketing agency,” explains Sanna. “There were skills that I wanted to learn, but for the most part, it was about getting real experience.”
Sanna is originally from Kittilä, in Lapland, and has now lived in Vantaa for the past seven years. She says that she’s really inspired by nature – especially the change of seasons. “I have a favorite part of each season, and I deeply appreciate their beauty. I feel that enjoying each season truly energizes me.”
Not surprisingly, one of Sanna’s favorite activities is to go hiking in the forest and maybe have a picnic to make a whole day out of it. She says that she also loves to travel and explore new places. “My favorite travel destination combines both a beach and city vacation,” says Sanna. “A beach is the perfect place to relax, but I also enjoy exploring new destinations and cultures; spending a week just lying on the beach would become boring. Right now, I'm dreaming of traveling to Tanzania for a safari and then exploring Zanzibar afterward.”
Sanna is very focused on exploring new things and discovering what life has to offer. She says that she’s proud of her determination to follow her dreams and go after her goals, particularly when people have told her to pursue a different path.
Pursuing your goals often requires resourcefulness and this is the Luxid value that Sanna most relates to. “Being resourceful is important to me. I like solving problems and learning new things. I believe that you can learn to do many things, and that’s why I strive to solve problems independently.”
Sanna says she lives the ‘Resourceful’ value at Luxid each day, trying to find new solutions and figuring out more efficient ways to tackle different tasks. “People at Luxid are continuously learning and are enthusiastic about enhancing their knowledge and skills.”
As the days grow cooler and the nights draw in, Sanna says she’s really enjoying the cozier evenings that come with autumn and going for walks in the crisp air. “Right now, thinking of Christmas makes my heart beat a little faster,” says Sanna. “It’s my favourite holiday, and I love December because of Christmas. This year will be extra special because I will be graduating in December, which makes me very happy!”
